StrongStart BC Early Learning Centre
Designed for children aged 0–5 with a caregiver, this drop-in, play-based program is facilitated by qualified early childhood educators. Located at Queensborough Middle School, sessions run Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and operates on a first-come, first-served basis after initial registration.
Registration is required on the first visit and re-registration is required at the start of every new school year. Please bring one piece of ID (e.g. birth certificate or passport) for your child on their first day.
New Westminster Public Library – Queensborough Branch
The Queensborough Branch (located in the Community Centre at 920 Ewen Ave) offers regular story time sessions and themed drop-in events for families and children. Programs vary throughout the year and can include multilingual story times, crafts, and educational activities.

Discovery Playtime Drop-In
Held at the Queensborough Community Centre (920 Ewen Ave), this free, no-registration program invites caregivers and young children to enjoy crafts, free play, and circle time together. Family Support Workers are on hand to connect families with resources as needed.
Open Mondays - 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Interact with toys, games a bouncy castle in the gymnasium, and meet other families in the area.
Queensborough Community Centre (920 Ewen Ave)

Hop on the Q2Q Ferry and visit Family Place at Quayside (112–960 Quayside Drive). This drop-in serves children aged 0–6 and their caregivers with early learning activities, free play, and circle time. Additional offerings include Babytalk sessions for caregivers with pre-mobile babies, and monthly gatherings like Eat, Play, Love potluck lunches.
No preregistration required; open Monday–Friday mornings.

Starting Kindergarten is an exciting milestone! Children who turn five years old by December 31 of the school year are eligible to begin Kindergarten in New Westminster. Registration is required to ensure your child is placed at your catchment school and receives the support they need for a smooth start. Queensborough families have great opportunities for children and teens to get active, develop new skills, and make friends through local sports teams. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to join competitive leagues, New Westminster offers a variety of sports programs for all ages and skill levels. Below is a list of popular sports teams and clubs with registration information to help you get started.
Cheerleading: The Hyack Cheer Program is a volunteer-based community cheer team dedicated to uplifting our players, fans, and neighborhoods with high energy, skillful performance, and positive spirit. They teach cheer chants, Level 1 and 2 stunting, and basic tumbling, while fostering confidence, teamwork, and community pride. Open to youth ages 5 to 14 and welcomes athletes of all experience levels. Whether you’re new to cheer or looking to grow your skills, there’s a place for you in the Hyack Cheer Family!
Soccer
New Westminster Soccer Club offers programs for kids aged 3 to 18, including recreational and competitive leagues. Registration is open seasonally. Join the New Westminster Baseball Association for affordable volunteer-led baseball programs tailored to children ages 4-12, including house leagues and travel teams. Spring season runs from April to June, All-Stars in June and July, Fall Ball in September and October, and indoor training from November to mid-March. The Royal City Hyacks Football program offers tackle and flag football for children and teens, focusing on teamwork, athleticism, and fun. Programs run for various age divisions, and equipment is provided for tackle leagues. To register, create an online account here.
Swimming

KidSport New Westminster Grant Program
We understand that extracurriculars can be costly. KidSport New Westminster offers grants to families that require additional supports. Their website has information on eligibility. Children 18 and younger could be eligible for up to $400 per child, per calendar year (January – December). Parent/guardians may apply more than one time in a calendar year but the total amount of grant(s) that will be given will not exceed $400.
Grant criteria:
Sport activities must be affiliated with the member sport organizations of Sport BC and demonstrate a sustained sport experience (a season of sport led by a qualified coach) for a minimum of 6 weeks and include at least one session per week.
